Denise - What is your definition of beautiful and what makes you B.YOUtiful?
Beautiful is only one word that can be said and expressed in various ways. Beauty comes from within one’s self and only then can it radiate through the physical. I am beautiful because I love who I am, I love myself, and by doing so I am capable of admiring other beauties as well. I love to laugh, smile and understand other people. To not judge or criticize people for how they look, act or the things they say. This is what makes me beautiful. I can enjoy having a lot and enjoy having almost nothing at all. Beautiful is what is inside your heart, mind and soul… no one can take that away from you. No one will take it from me because it is my most precious possession and I have the power to decide how I want to feel… I choose beautiful.
Why is it some important for young women today to have a good self esteem, positive body image, and to be comfortable in their own skin?
A healthy self esteem is extremely important! This depends on how you are going to go through life.
Are you going to let people step all over you or are you going to keep your head up high no matter what situation is in front of you?
Keeping a positive attitude towards things and towards your self will help you achieve everything your heart desires. No one is perfect, that is inevitable. Although, we can do our best. We can do this by nurturing our bodies with the right foods and keep us healthy by drinking lots of water and going to the gym. Positive body image does not mean starve yourself it means care for yourself and do what is possible to look and feel your best.
How can you accomplish anything, if you aren’t comfortable in your own skin?
This meaning not accepting or loving you. To like what you see when you look in the mirror, tell yourself how gorgeous you are and be thankful that there is no one on this earth who is exactly like you, because you are irreplaceable! With all this put together and feeling great about who you are, there is nothing you can’t do and no one can tell you otherwise. The power is inside of you. The power is inside of me!
Heidi - What is your definition of beautiful and what makes you B.YOUtiful?
When I was younger, beauty always used to mean the shape of a face or the wave of perfect hair. As I grew, I was taught it meant your heart. But I’ve come to decide that beauty means neither the out nor inside. Beautiful, in my definition, is an action. It means staying true to yourself and sharing that self with others. Truly beautiful people don’t have to put on an act, and those that do find themselves looking for beauty in outer image. Beautiful people are comfortable with the fact that they aren’t perfect, because perfection isn’t beautiful. The societal definition of “flaws” both in personality and image are what fake, otherwise nondescript clones and turn them into individuals. True beauty is accepting those qualities and feeling the confidence not to hide them from others.
Why is it some important for young women today to have a good self esteem, positive body image, and to be comfortable in their own skin?
In the rapidly changing styles, especially in the US, one main fact is obviously apparent: modesty is out. The gradual change from hot to not failed to take into account that so many girls are not prepared for so abrupt a change from prudence to fashion. It is so important for young women to feel comfortable in their own skin so that they don’t have to rely on the failures of pop culture. Too often certain body types of average and beautiful alike are left unconsidered and the “beauty myth” only adds to feelings of inferiority to what society decides to label “gorgeous”. To combat the negative images presented to young women, the only true opponent is to honestly feel a healthy self-esteem about oneself.
Chelsea - What is your definition of beautiful and what makes you B.YOUtiful?
In my personal opinion, I feel that the definition of beautiful is who you are as a person and how you carry and feel about yourself. Through my lifetime, I have been through everything from name calling to being broken down by others because I’ve always been different. Through those experiences though, I have learned that people don’t make you who you are, but you make you who you are. My strength and love towards others as well as who I am and what I stand for makes me who I am as an individual which is truly beautiful.
Why is it some important for young women today to have a good self esteem, positive body image, and to be comfortable in their own skin?
Healthy self-esteem is the thought of how you feel about yourself in a positive way and know that, although there may always be flaws, that is truly what makes the individual beautiful and unique. This as well as positive body image and feeling comfortable in your own skin is very crucial in girls, especially today, because knowing who you are and being ok with that is what will make you stronger and will keep you going. I strongly believe that, because people only have one life to live they should live it as much as possible. What this being said, girls deserve to be happy and feel beautiful with what they have and who they are and how they want to go through their lives as strong independent girls.
