What you see when you look in the mirror. How you feel about yourself. Body image. Self esteem. It seems so simple; so insignificant; however it is the root of many major issues that we relentlessly combat individually in society today. Eating disorders, substance abuse, domestic abuse, teen pregnancy, and depression are just a few of the issues that can be the result. When self worth is absent, the likelihood for a person to attempt to fill a void and succumb to negativity rises exponentially. In a study conducted by the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty, only 2% of women think that they are beautiful, and only 13% love their bodies-chiefly due to societal pressures and arbitrarily established standards of beauty. We are inundated on a daily basis with images of the “ideal” woman; images that are not necessarily consistent with characteristics of the “average” woman, nor are they attainable to the average woman. For example, the average person sees about 500 ads per day. A majority of these have a direct or indirect link to beauty or the result of beauty. The symbolism of prestige, success and love, leaves one to believe that if they do not fit in this exclusive group, they are not worthy of true happiness. Still not convinced that this is such a widespread problem? 81% of 10 year old girls have dieted at least once. The average size of the idealized woman is 13-19% below the physically expected weight. 40-50% of women who smoke, do so for weight control. Overweight women are 20% less likely to get married, and will make almost $7,000 less a year.
It's easy to see how no matter what size or shape that we are, that "perfect" will never be good enough. So why not stop trying to fit in the box and just B.YOUtiful? The latest B.YOUtiful events B.YOUtiful and the St. Jude's Ranch for Children at Seva Salon Nevada Women's Expo

B.YOUtiful teams up with the Las Vegas Prom Closet The Las Vegas Prom Closet is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a prom experience to high school girls who may otherwise not be able to afford to go. I became involved with this organization last year, where we were able to provide dresses and shoes. However, this year, I was determined to provide an even greater experience. In conjunction with my platform and B.YOUtiful campaign, I created the Super Sweet Prom Makeover for those young ladies who especially need a boost of self-esteem and confidence to feel like a queen for one of the most memorable nights of these young women’s lives, their Prom. All young ladies (and men) who participated in the Las Vegas Prom Closet had the opportunity to write a well thought out essay on the following questions: What is your definition of beautiful & what makes you B.YOUtiful? And, Why is it some important for young women today to have a good self esteem, positive body image, and to be comfortable in their own skin? 10 Grand Prize winners were selected for their Super Sweet experience, 7 students from Burk High School were treated to services at Amp Salon at Palms Hotel and Casino and 3 others enjoyed Color Salon at Caesars Palace with the works, hair, makeup and nails. No wonder everyone looked BYOUtiful. Both salons are owned by Michael Boychuck, “Stylist to the Stars,” needless to say everyone looked fabulous and felt like an A-list celebrity for the day. In addition, the Palms including transportation in their lime green limos as well as the Penthouse suite for a little pre prom party with me!

"Define beauty for yourself and don't live up to anyone else's standards but your own. Embrace all of God's gifts, where they are more or less than the next woman's. Confidence is beautiful, powerful, and truly exudes from within." - The Queen B
